Jamshedpur, Feb 6: A major disruption occurred on Thursday morning when a pipeline of Tata Steel UISL was accidentally damaged during digging work for the under-construction flyover near Gandhi Ghat. The JCB used for the excavation caused the pipeline to break, leading to thousands of litres of water spilling onto the Mango Chhota Bridge. This continued for over four hours, resulting in the wastage of a substantial amount of water and significant traffic congestion in the area.

As the water gushed onto the bridge, traffic on Chhota Bridge came to a standstill, and the police were forced to intervene by stopping vehicles from crossing.

The water flow created hazardous conditions on the bridge, leading to ice accumulation due to the slope. Despite these dangerous conditions, pedestrians continued to cross the bridge, risking their safety.

An engineer on site confirmed that the Tata Steel UISL pipeline was broken during the digging process. The issue was promptly reported to the company, with repairs expected to take one to two hours.

However, the traffic disruption caused by the broken pipeline had already created a jam on Mango Bridge, which spread to Mango to Dimna Chowk, Dimna Road to Mango Chowk, and Payal Talkies.

The incident highlighted the negligence of the agency working on the flyover, as the pipeline was not repaired promptly, leading to hours of water wastage and traffic chaos.
