PDS dealers should spread awareness among voters: Amit Kumar

Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner cum Returning Officer Amit Kumar Saturday appealed to all public distribution system (PDS) dealers of the district to spread awareness among voters. He asked them to convert the PDS shops into voter awareness zones to ensure maximum participation of voters in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Kumar was addressing PDS dealers of the district at a workshop especially organized for them at Michael John auditorium, Bistupur. He said the PDS dealers could play an important role by informing all beneficiaries about the significance of their vote and asking them to use their voting rights to choose the right candidate and strengthen the democracy thereby.

The DC said the PDS dealers were a strong link since they deal distribute foodgrains and other ration items among 17 lakh people every month.

District administration screened a video clip on cVIGIL app at the workshop. EVM and VVPAT machines were also used to conduct mock poll before the participants.

Kumar asked all PDS dealers to install posters and banners with awareness messages for voters at their shops. He said posters, banners and pamphlets had been provided to all PDS dealers by the district administration. He said the voter helpline number 1950 should also be publicized among the voters.
