Jamshedpur, Oct 10: Two-day CII Jharkhand conference on Safety Talk with the theme of “Equitable and sustainable strategies: Building a safer future for all” concluded at Adityapur hotel on Saturday.
Ranjot Singh, Chairman of the CII Jharkhand State Council and Managing Director of Emdet Jamshedpur Pvt. Ltd., praised participants for their active engagement and thanked the speakers for their contributions during the CII Jharkhand Safety Talk. He emphasized the collective commitment to improving safety standards in MSMEs and fostering collaboration for continuous improvement.
Malcom Dunbar, Corporate Safety at Levy, highlighted the importance of adopting a “zero harm” approach to protect lives and reduce financial risks for businesses. He discussed the moral responsibility of ensuring employee safety and compliance with regulations. Dunbar also addressed key challenges like complacency, underreporting of incidents, and operational complexities that hinder the development of a strong safety culture.
Jaspal Singh, Partner at Abreast Engineering, focused on safety in MSMEs, stressing the importance of awareness, accountability, and availability. He introduced an online Behavior Safety Violation Card to encourage employees to discreetly report unsafe practices, helping to build a safer work environment. Singh also emphasized the need for policies that prevent child labor and sexual harassment in the workplace.
Mukesh Singh, General Manager of HSE at Tata Cummins Pvt. Ltd., presented best practices for ensuring safety in engine test cells. He stressed the importance of regular equipment inspections, proper ventilation, and comprehensive emergency response training. Singh also discussed the use of monitoring systems to detect leaks and emphasized the importance of fostering open communication about hazards.
Hemaleka Balu, Senior Manager of Projects at Tata Chemicals Ltd., shared strategies for process safety in dynamic environments. She advocated for integrating safety management into daily operations, conducting risk assessments, and using advanced technologies to detect hazards early. Balu also stressed the importance of employee engagement in fostering a safety culture.
The second day of the CII Jharkhand Safety Talk drew over 250 delegates, 1,000 business visitors, and more than 40 exhibitors. The event provided a platform for meaningful discussions on workplace safety and strategies for reducing risks across various industries.
Neeraj Kumar Sinha, Convenor of the CII Jharkhand Safety Panel and Chief of Safety at Tata Steel Ltd., along with other experts, shared best practices and effective protocols to promote continuous improvement. The event concluded with a shared commitment to enhancing safety standards and fostering a safer future for all industries.
