Jamshedpur, Nov 21: Under Musabani block of East Singhbhum district, the sub-health center of The Bakra Baredih Tola Sub Health Centre in Musabani block has been running in a rented premise since 13 years. Although the rent per month of this accommodation is just Rs 200, the terra cotta tiled roof and general ambience is bereft of healthy atmosphere. This sub centre works for three days a week only while for the other four days the sick denizens have to rely on luck or cover a great distance to reach the nearest medical facility.
In the usual course, the Bakra villagers had to trek 20 kilometers over rough terrain to reach the Kendadih Hospital. Due to hostile road conditions no vehicle could reach Bakra to carry patients. Villagers Budhia Kaibarto, Putli Kaibarto, Manko Mardi, Anita Hansda, Karni Mardi and Dumani Murmu stated that to cater to the medical needs of the 1,000 population of Bakra, a health sub centre was set up that operated for just three days a week. They complained that this health facility was there in name only. They said that the results of blood tests arrived after four days. There was no one to check blood pressure, one of the many primary health services required even at a ‘low facility’ health centre. The only facilities available at this Bakra health sub centre were post pregnancy checkup, medical advise and a few medicines and vaccinations.
Villagers including AJSU Party district vice-president Mangal Mahali have demanded from the Civil Surgeon and the Deputy Commissioner of the district that a new health sub centre building be constructed and that at least one doctor be posted so that better medical facilities could be provided to them.
