Parking chaos at MGM Hospital Jamshedpur troubles families

Jamshedpur, Oct 19: The lack of adequate parking facilities at MGM Hospital, Kolhan’s largest government medical facility, continues to create significant challenges for patients and their families. With around 3,000 people—including 1,200 patients—visiting the hospital daily, there are no secure parking arrangements for those arriving by vehicle. “We have to lock our motorcycles outside and frequently check on them,” expressed Om Prakash, a concerned visitor. “It’s frustrating and adds to the stress of having a loved one in the hospital.”

Many individuals resort to locking their vehicles outside the hospital, leading to multiple incidents of motorcycle theft. Recent surveillance footage captured a thief in action, exacerbating the anxiety of families already burdened by their loved ones’ medical conditions. Two years ago, a paid parking system was briefly implemented, but it was discontinued after just one week due to administrative issues.

Dr. Shikha Rani acknowledged the parking crisis, stating, “We are aware of the difficulties faced by families and intend to communicate with government officials about potential solutions.” Suggestions include utilizing the empty space along the boundary wall for parking, similar to systems in place at other medical facilities.

Families have voiced their frustrations, calling for improved security measures and a reliable parking system. Sheikh Ibrahim, another visitor, added, “We need a ticketed parking facility to alleviate our worries and ensure our vehicles are safe.”
