Jamshedpur, July 15: 49,592 cases were pending investigation in 606 police stations across Jharkhand. The backlog had resulted in a significant delay in the judicial process, raising concerns about the police’s commitment to delivering justice.
Ranchi district topped the list with the highest number of pending cases, followed by Dhanbad, Hazaribagh, Bokaro, Jamshedpur, and Palamu. The large number of unresolved cases suggested a serious issue with the efficiency of the police force in the state.
The district-wise breakdown of pending cases include Ranchi 11,883, Jamshedpur 2,685, Chaibasa 849, Saraikela 1,086, Khunti 438, Dhanbad 5,009, Hazaribagh 4,217, Bokaro 4,048, Palamu 2,630, Deoghar 2,603, Giridih 1,999, Chatra 1,760, Garhwa 1,752, Sahebganj 1,543, Dumka 1,103, Latehar 1,045, Godda 806, Ramgarh 758, Gumla 714, Lohardaga 536, Koderma 527, Jamtara 462, Pakur 446, Simdega 217, Rail Dhanbad 353 and Jamshedpur (additional) 123.
The alarming number of pending cases highlighted the urgent need for reforms in the police and judicial systems to ensure timely justice for the people of Jharkhand.
