Online discussion on Relevance of Gandhi and Shastri at Ghatshila College

Ghatshila, Oct 2: The Department of Political Science and National Service Scheme (NSS) Departments of Ghatshila College organized an online discussion on ’The Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi and Former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in Present Times.’ The discussion was organized on the occasion of the birth anniversaries of the two stalwarts on October 2.

The subject was introduced and conducted by Ghatshila College’s Department of Political Science Head, Professor Indal Paswan. Speaking on the occasion, Ghatshila College Principal, Dr RK Chaudhary observed, “The present day economic structure is based on consumerism and product marketing. The mantra of simplicity and frugality as practiced and propagated by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Sashtri has to be followed or else development and progress of agriculture, farmers and labourers will stagnate and one, under the circumstances, cannot remain to be passive fence sitters.”

Dr Sanjay Singh contended that there was a need to learn and adopt the philosophies as propounded through the sense of duty as depicted by Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Sashtri. Referring specifically to the students, Dr Sanjay Singh said, “Whatever work you engage in, perform it dedicatedly. You have to follow the philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Sashtri to wring in progress at every professional step. This will be a true tribute to both the stalwarts who were bent on ushering in changes to uplift national economy and individual economy.”

Others who spoke on the topic included Shankar Mahali, Bhavesh Bhakat, Duryodhan Murmu and Sudam Hembram also gave their statements in the discussion. The vote of thanks was proposed by Hrishikesh Saw.
