Jhargram, July 1: Two elephants wreaked havoc in Raibani village of Gopiballabhpur block in Jhargram late yesterday night, killing one person and destroying eight houses.
Sources said the elephants trampled one Laxman Hembram, 75, after dragging him out of his house. The family members of the deceased somehow survived in the incident. Their house was partially damaged in the elephant attack, sources said.
Local police reached the village and recovered Hembram’s mutilated body. Forest officials assured to provide compensation to the next of kin of the deceased and advised villagers to be on alert.
