Jamshedpur, Sept. 4: Jayanti Sheshadri (53), registrar of Loyola School in Jamshedpur will receive the National Teachers’ Award from Vice president, Venkaiah Naidu at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on September 5.
On the eve of the coveted award ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday interacted with Jayanti Sheshadri and other 151 recipients of National Teachers� Awards in New Delhi and exhorted them to work towards bringing out the inherent strength of students.
Prime Minister congratulated the awardees for their efforts towards improving the quality of education in the country.
After meeting Jayanti Sheshadri, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on his twitter handle, ‘met Ms. Jayanthi Sheshadri, who has shown tremendous passion towards improving rural education. She has created innovative modules and conducted workshops to spread the joys of learning. Congratulations to her’.
PM during the interaction with the awardees commended their dedication towards education and for making it their �life mantra�. He said that a teacher remains a teacher throughout his or her life.
During the interaction, Modi urged the awardees to mobilise the community and to make them an integral part of school development. He also exhorted the teachers to work towards bringing out the inherent strength of students, especially those from poor and rural background.
The prime minister said the educators should work towards removing the disconnect between the teachers and the students, so that teachers are remembered by the students throughout their lives. He also encouraged the teachers to digitally transform their schools and its neighbourhood.
During the interaction with the prime minister, the awardees narrated their stories in transforming their schools into centres of learning and excellence.
They also thanked the prime minister for the new online nomination process and for schemes such as Digital India, which is bringing a big qualitative change in school education throughout the country, the statement said.
This year, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has revised the guidelines for the selection of teachers for National Awards.
The new scheme envisages self-nomination and was inspired by recent innovations in major national awards. The scheme is transparent, fair, and rewards demonstrated excellence and performance, the statement pointed out.
The teachers will be conferred the award for 2017 on Wednesday.
Jayanti Sheshadri was nominated by the Council for the Indian School Certificate
Examinations (CISCE) to the Union HRD for the award. Instituted in 1958, the National Award to Teachers are given away by the President of India on Teacher�s Day ( September 5) every year to give public recognition to meritorious teachers working in primary, middle and secondary schools.
Sheshadri, who started her career as corporate official latter became a teacher and has been teaching English for the past 20 years and the last 10 years in Loyola School. �I started my career as HR person with a private company and had worked 10 years. In 1998, I took a break and joined teaching thinking that was the best job suited to a woman,� said Sheshadri who is extensively involved in training teachers of underprivileged schools run by Jesuits in rural areas.
