Odiya drama to reemerge after a lull of three decades

Saraikela, Dec 14: The land of 16 art forms denotes the name Saraikela famed for its various streams of art and art forms. There was good news for theatre artistes, connoisseurs and buffs as the reemergence of theatre after a lull of 30 years had turned a reality.

In a meeting organized at Indratandi Mohalla of Saraikela which was presided by Padma Shri Shashadhar Acharya and senior artiste Shantanu Senapati, the need to preserve Odiya tradition culture and theatre was discussed. It was unanimously decided that Odiya drama would commence and plays would be presented either in the last week of February or first week of March, 2021. It was observed that many theatre artistes of the Odiya stage were denied the joys of performance and sharpening of their performing skills resulting in stagnation of their talents. After a long hiatus of 30 years, Odiya theatre, famous for its form, style and distinctive grammar of performance is all set for a pulsatibng comeback. Organizers have assured of providing a stage for the performing teams.

Among those present in the meeting were Nathu Mahto, Subodh Panigrahi, Bablu Dubey, Rupesh Sahu, Dilip Shankar Acharya, Saroj Acharya, Partha Sarathi Acharya, Nilkanth Sarangi, Sushant Kumar Mahapatra, Rajat Patnaik, Tuna Pati, Vijendra Pattanayak, Robi Kar, Nalini Acharya, Moni Jyotishi, Sandip Nanda and many other artistes and theatre lovers.
