Jamshedpur, Feb 5: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy Sunday accused state Health Minister Banna Gupta of lying about having obtained permission for the ongoing beautification work at Sonari Domuhani from the Chief Engineer of Swarnarekha Multi-purpose Project (SMP).

In a press statement, Roy said, “The Chief Engineer of SMP Ashok Kumar has not given permission for the ongoing construction and beautification work at Sonari Domuhani undertaken by Banna Gupta. The works that are being carried out include landscaping, construction of public amenities, walkways, pathways and ramps.”

Roy said the various works started at the Domuhani were not important and that they had no utility for the public. He further alleged that more than two dozen trees were cut down from Domuhani to Kanderbera bridge on the instructions of the Health Minister. Bushes growing on the embankment of Marine Drive had also been cleared with the help of excavator machines, which is against rules, he said.

The MLA further said that the Chief Engineer had given permission to build a new platform for performing religious rituals which was against rules. He said the Chief Engineer had not given permission to works which were being publicized by Gupta. He said Gupta was ‘tampering’ with the river for the last 10 days without obtaining permission from the authorities concerned.
