NIT to ensure underground wiring for safety

Jamshedpur : Adityapur-based National Institute of Technology ( NIT) has decided to ensure underground wiring of electrical cables at the campus so as to ensure safety human beings as well as cattles. The wiring in some of the buildings would also be converted into concealed wiring. NIT director Rambabu Kodali said that they have decided to go for underground cabling.
“We are concerned over safety lapses and are working over the project of underground electrical wiring. We have decided to start the project as early as possible so that there any recurrence like the one took place on Tuesday could be prevented from taking place,” Kodali said.
The NIT director said that the estimate for the underground wiring which they had earlier made was around Rs 5.5 crores.
On Tuesday morning, four buffaloes were electrocuted at the campus after they came in contact with a 11,000 KVA power line that had fell on the ground from an electricity pole.
Kodali had also ordered for an enquiry into the tragedy. The professor M Tigga, who is in-charge of college administration who carried out the enquiry by visiting the spot of occurrence yesterday submitted his report to the director.
