Jamshedpur, September 19: NIT Jamshedpur is embarking on an innovative project to develop a Remote Operated Underwater Vehicle (ROV) designed for operation on the sea floor. This vehicle, which can be controlled remotely from above the water, aims to explore depths previously unreachable by scientists.

The project, titled ‘Design and Development of Bio-Inspired Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle,’ is funded by the Autonomous Navigation Technology Innovation Center of IIT Hyderabad. Led by Dr. Vijay Kumar Dalla from the Mechanical Engineering Department at NIT Jamshedpur, the research will focus on creating a vehicle equipped for biological research. It will gather data on various marine organisms and underwater environments.

IIT Hyderabad is spearheading efforts to advance autonomous vehicle technology with support from the Government of India, and this initiative marks a significant step in that direction. The project at NIT Jamshedpur will include hiring a Project Assistant, with applications open until September 20. This initiative represents the first effort at NIT Jamshedpur to develop technology for deep-sea remote-operated vehicles, promising substantial contributions to biological research.
