Jamshedpur, September 19: The Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighted the challenges faced due to the lack of an airport in Jamshedpur. The SCCI has requested the Prime Minister to direct the relevant ministry and officials to expedite the construction of the airport.

Honorary General Secretary Manav Kedia reported that despite Jamshedpur’s significance as an industrial hub and economic capital of Jharkhand, it lacked an airport, hindering its development. President Vijay Anand Moonka emphasized the persistent efforts of the Singhbhum Chamber to address this issue with the Central Civil Aviation Ministry and other officials.

The absence of an airport recently led to significant inconvenience during the Prime Minister’s visit on September 15, when adverse weather conditions in Ranchi and Jamshedpur caused the cancellation of planned events and required him to travel 130 km by road. The Chamber believed that an airport in Jamshedpur would have prevented such disruptions and has urged the Prime Minister to ensure prompt action on this matter.

As of September 2024, there have been no major new updates regarding the construction of an airport in Jamshedpur. The SCCI’s recent appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted ongoing concerns and requested for expedited action, but specific progress details or decisions from the relevant ministries and officials had not been reported yet.
