NIT Jamshedpur organizes three-day programme on sustainable development

Jamshedpur: NSS NIT Jamshedpur successfully conducted a three-day programme on Sustainable Development from 10th to 12th January. The event kicked off with a two-day case study presentation competition, where students showcased innovative ideas and solutions on various critical environmental issues. Topics ranged from green building practices and reducing plastic waste to the impact of renewable energy and effective water management strategies. The student presentations were evaluated by a panel of judges who appreciated the creative approaches and practical solutions offered.

The programme was organized under the supervision of NSS Programme Coordinator, Dr. Jayendra Kumar, and student representatives, who played a vital role in the smooth execution of the event.

The programme culminated on 12th January with a motivational seminar featuring Himanshu Sheth as the keynote speaker. Sheth, an educationist, motivator, and life coach, is well known for his impactful stories and insights into personal and professional growth. During his address, he stressed the importance of adopting renewable resources and waste management systems to ensure that future generations can also benefit from available resources. He highlighted the advantages of bamboo as an eco-friendly material and its potential use in furniture and other products.

Sheth further elaborated on key environmental observances like Earth Day and Environment Day and urged the students to adopt biodegradable products and avoid items that contribute to environmental harm. He also warned that if carbon dioxide levels continue to rise, up to 1 million species could become extinct by 2050.

The seminar was attended by around 100 students, who listened attentively to Mr. Sheth’s advice. Dr. R.P. Singh, Dean of Student Welfare, also shared his thoughts on the connection between youth and sustainability, encouraging students to be more sustainability-conscious. Dr. Jayendra Kumar motivated the students to work toward sustainability, emphasizing the critical role they play in shaping a sustainable future.

The event ended with the announcement of the winners of the case study presentation competition, recognizing the most innovative and practical ideas on sustainable development. This three-day programme, organized by NSS NIT Jamshedpur, provided valuable insights into sustainability, innovation, and environmental consciousness, proving to be a highly inspiring and informative experience for all participants.
