Jamshedpur, Nov 23: NIT Jamshedpur inaugurated its first-ever single-occupancy girls’ hostel, the 300-bed Savitribai Phule Girls’ Hostel, on 23 November 2025, marking a major upgrade in student residential facilities. The G+5 hostel, constructed by CPWD at an estimated cost of Rs 32.40 crore, was inaugurated by Director Prof. Gautam Sutradhar, who said the new facility “will significantly enhance safety, privacy and comfort for girl students.” Approved in 2019, the hostel includes 300 single rooms, separate toilet blocks, dining and common halls, games room, sick room and three badminton courts.
The building also incorporates sustainable features such as a 50 kWp rooftop solar plant, solar water heating, RO systems on each floor, LAN and CCTV surveillance and modern fire safety systems. Superintending Engineer (P&D) S. P. Roy provided a technical briefing, while Dean (P&D) Prof. U. K. Sinha outlined the planning and execution process. The event was attended by institute officials, faculty, staff and students. The information was provided by Dr. Ratnesh Kumar Mishra, Institute Media in-charge.
