Jamshedpur, Dec 3: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur marked a significant milestone on Wednesday by organizing its first-ever Disability Day program through a national seminar titled “Empowering Abilities, Encouraging Inclusion.”
Held to observe the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the event brought together experts, faculty members, and students to foster awareness, strengthen accessibility, and advocate for equal participation for persons with disabilities.
The program was inaugurated by NIT Jamshedpur director Prof. Goutam Sutradhar, who encouraged the gathering with his insightful remarks on building an inclusive and supportive academic environment.
The seminar was convened by Dr. Shakti Prasad (Mathematics Department), Dr. Sushil Kumar (Humanities and Management Department), and Dr. Shubhranshu Kumar Tiwary (Electrical Engineering Department).
Distinguished speakers delivered detailed sessions on “Disability Schemes,” “Inclusive Smart Campus Design for All,” and “Disability Rights and Laws.”
The initiative received strong support from Prof. Ram Vinoy Sharma, Prof. Satish Kumar, Dr. Madhu Singh, and Advisory Committee members Dr. Sunil Murmu, Dr. Kundan Kumar, Dr. Mrinal Sarkar, and Dr. Manish Kumar Jha.
By hosting this inaugural Disability Day seminar, NIT Jamshedpur has taken a significant step toward sustained efforts in disability awareness and advocacy, laying the foundation for future initiatives that champion dignity, rights, and equal opportunities for all.
