Jamshedpur, Dec 3: Jharkhand health minister Irfan Ansari, during his one-day visit to Jamshedpur on Wednesday, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring equal rights for all persons with disabilities.

Arriving at the Sadar Hospital around 1:25 pm, the minister spent 15 minutes in OPD Room No. 10, where he examined seven patients, signalling his emphasis on improving public healthcare services.

Speaking to the media after reviewing OPD services, Ansari announced that Jharkhand will soon become the first state in the country to do away with the percentage-based disability classification system.

“There will no longer be categories like 10 %, 20 % or 50 % disability. All persons with disabilities will be recognised equally and will receive uniform rights,” he said, adding that the proposal will be placed before the Cabinet and a formal notification will follow.

The minister also declared that all Sadar Hospitals across the state will be equipped with CT scan and MRI facilities, with the procurement process set to begin soon.

CT scan and MRI services will also be made available at MGM Hospital in the near future.

Addressing concerns about the safety of doctors, the minister stated that the Doctor Protection Act is awaiting Cabinet approval.

“Being a doctor myself, I assure that no doctor in Jharkhand needs to fear. Doctors should work confidently and continue providing quality treatment,” he said.

He added that public trust in government hospitals has been steadily rising.

“There is a misconception that doctors do not attend OPD on time. But the reality is changing. Over the past year, more than one lakh patients have sought treatment at Jamshedpur Sadar Hospital, reflecting growing confidence among poor and needy patients.”

On the issue of water scarcity at MGM Hospital, Ansari revealed that despite having nine deep borings, the hospital continues to face shortages.

Discussions with Tata Steel are underway to ensure regular water supply, and a solution is expected soon.

When asked about political speculation, Ansari dismissed claims that Chief Minister Hemant Soren might align with the BJP, calling it “propaganda.”

He asserted that the coalition government remains strong and will complete its five-year term.

Civil Surgeon Dr Sahil Pal, and several other officials were present during the minister’s visit.
