New Delhi (IANS): A devastating fire at a four-storey building in Vivek Vihar, Delhi, claimed nine lives early Sunday morning, including a 1.5-year-old child. The blaze broke out on the second floor of the building, identified as premises No. B-13, Vivek Vihar Phase I, around 4 a.m.
Authorities dispatched 14 fire engines to the scene, bringing the fire under control by 6 a.m.. Rescue teams successfully pulled 15 people from the building, though nine succumbed to their injuries. Two survivors sustained minor injuries and are receiving treatment at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.
The casualties were concentrated on the upper floors of the building:

Second Floor: Five members of one family died, identified as Arvind Jain (60), his wife Anita Jain (58), their son Nishant Jain (35), Nishant’s wife Anchal Jain (33), and their 1.5-year-old son, Akash Jain.

Third Floor: Three victims from another family lost their lives: Nitin Jain (50), Shailey Jain (48), and Samyak Jain (25).

First Floor: Sikha Jain (40) was killed, while her husband, Naveen Jain (48), sustained injuries and remains under medical care.
Local police, including the Vivek Vihar SHO and ACP, joined the crime team at the site to oversee the preliminary inquiry. While officials established the identities of all nine deceased, the cause of the fire remains unknown. Further proceedings at the spot are currently in progress.
