Jamshedpur, March 20: City police here on Monday arrested nine members of an inter-state gang of dacoits. They confiscated three pistols including two country-made guns, 26 bullets, one knife, gold and silver ornaments, 78 gram molten gold and Rs 2.15 lakh in cash from the possession of the gang members.
Those arrested were identified as Rahim Khan, Sheikh Naseem, Chandu Mukhi, Abhishek Dey alias Mithun, Dipankar Sen alias Shera, Manish Prasad, Arun Namta and Raja Namta. Manish, Arun and Raja had allegedly purchased the looted ornaments from the other accused persons, police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Jamshedpur, Prabhat Kumar, said the busting of the gang had helped the city police solve 15 criminal cases altogether.
“The gang carried out dacoity, robbery and other loot crimes in Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. Its kingpin Rahim Khan, a resident of Badia, Mosabani, is accused in around 19 cases of murder, Arms Act and loot in the various police stations of Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha,” said the SSP.
The SSP said the gang was involved in the incident of loot in Ghatsila and subsequently in Pokta four months ago. On 14th March last, the gang had committed dacoity in the house of Chhavi Pushti. Rahim Khan was arrested first and later his associates were caught, said the SSP.
The SSP said Dipankar used to visit a place before carrying out crimes like loot, dacoity and robbery. After committing the crime, the gang used to sell the valuables to one Manoj Prasad who would further sell the same to two others. The gang members would share the booty later, said the SSP.
