Newborn baby abandoned again at Sitaramdera

Jamshedpur, July 7: In fourth such case within a fortnight, a newborn baby was found in an abandoned state behind the boundary wall of Deputy Labour Commissioner’s office at Sitaramdera on Friday morning. This baby too is a male child and was found in a healthy condition. A morning walker first spotted the newborn when he heard the cry of the newborn.

As the news spread, a police team arrived at the spot within 15 minutes and took him to MGM Medical College Hospital for providing the necessary medical care. OC, Sitaramdera police station Rameshwar Oraon confirmed about recovery of a baby boy from near the DLC office.

“It is too early to comment but it appears that it was a child born out of an illicit relationship. The person who dropped the child there must have done so around dawn in darkness,” said Oraon, adding that they have informed about the occurrence to the district administration for necessary action.

Notably, this was the fourth child to have been found lying abandoned within the past fortnight. Earlier on June 26, bodies of twin newborns were found lying in a dustbin behind the Sitramdera police station area. Earlier on July 4, a newborn male baby was found lying in a bush near a temple in Sonari.

District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), Chanchal Kumari conceded that the newborn baby which was found in an abandoned state today might be either that of a unwed mother or born out of an illicit relation.
