New directorate to remove malnutrition in Jharkhand

Jamshedpur, Nov. 5: State food and civil supplies minister, Saryu Rai said that government will provide pulses to the children of Anganwadi centres. He said that his department has already initiated measures in this direction.

Rai further said that diet (food) is the only thing which can help upkeep of health of women and children. �The State government has formed a new directorate to remove malnutrition,� Mr. Rai said after inaugurating a two-day conference on �Action against Malnutrition� organised by a NGOs at Namkum on Thursday.

Present as the chief guest, Mr. Rai appreciated the efforts made by NGOs in strengthening children’s nutrition.

Women, child development and social welfare minister Louis Marandi said that the State government will form �Poshan Mission� (Nutrition Mission) to make Jharkhand malnutrition free and �Poshan Sakhi� will also be hired to make children malnutrition free.

The mission will start on November 13, minister said, adding that the Union government is also providing readymade packed food.
