Jamshedpur: In a major move to alleviate traffic congestion for city residents, the state government has approved the construction of a new bridge over the Subarnarekha River. The bridge will connect Sakchi to Azad Basti, providing a much-needed alternative route for commuters.
Key Project Details
The Road Construction Department (Jamshedpur Division) has completed the primary survey for the project. Here are the highlights of the proposed plan:
- Length: The bridge will be 8 kilometers long.
- Model: It will be constructed based on the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model.
- Timeline: Authorities aim to complete the construction within 24 months once work begins.
- Impacted Areas: Residents of Azad Basti, Zakirnagar, Jawaharnagar, and Chepapul will benefit significantly, gaining easier access to the Sakchi area.
Key Land Parcels Verified
The proposed new high-level bridge over the Subarnarekha River connecting Sakchi and Azadbasti has entered a crucial preparatory phase with the verification of key land parcels required for the project. Land corresponding to Khata Numbers 763, 1244, and 266, along with Plot Numbers 4090 A, B, C, and 3904D, has been identified and verified as part of the land acquisition and alignment process for the proposed bridge corridor.
The overall project scope includes 34 distinct locations comprising land parcels ranging from 0.10 hectares to 2 hectares, in addition to other miscellaneous assets and structures that may fall within the project alignment. The verification exercise is aimed at ensuring smooth implementation of the bridge project, which is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Sakchi and Azadbasti, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance urban mobility in the Jamshedpur region.
What is the EPC Model?
The bridge project is proposed to be executed under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model. Under this system, a single contractor selected through the tendering process will be entrusted with the complete responsibility for execution of the project. This includes detailed mapping and surveys, preparation of engineering designs, procurement of construction materials and machinery, and the actual construction of the bridge and related infrastructure.
Land Verification Completed
The Circle Office (Anchal) has finished the verification of land falling under the bridge’s alignment. According to the report:
- Survey Progress: Mango Circle Officer (CO) Brajesh Srivastava and Executive Engineer Deepak Sahay have submitted a two-page report to the Road Construction Department.
- Land Type: The alignment involves vacant administration land in Ward 8, as well as some private (Ryoti) land.
- Obstructions: Some structures, including houses, shops, godowns, and kitchens, are currently situated on the proposed path and will need to be addressed under land acquisition rules.
Current Status
The district administration has officially sent the alignment and land verification report to the Road Construction Department. This bridge will be in addition to other ongoing projects, including the flyover from Mango to Sakchi and the bridge under construction at Pipla on NH-33.
