Netaji Subhash University Jamshedpur hosts captivating Spic Macay violin recital

Jamshedpur, Nov 19: Netaji Subhash University’s cultural committee, in association with Spic Macay (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth), organized a mesmerizing violin recital on campus, celebrating the timeless beauty of Indian classical music. The event drew students, faculty members, music enthusiasts, and art lovers from across the university.

The highlight of the evening was the performance by renowned Hindustani classical violinist Durga Sharma, a celebrated national-level artiste known for her technical mastery and soulful expression.

Her seamless blend of precision and emotion brought each raga to life, enthralling the audience with its purity and depth.

The program was formally inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Prabhat Pani, who emphasized the university’s commitment to preserving and promoting India’s rich artistic heritage.

In his address, he expressed pride in hosting such a culturally enriching event and said, “Exposure to classical arts plays a vital role in shaping well-rounded and culturally aware youth.
Durga Sharma’s performance was more than a concert—it served as a vibrant tutorial on the Hindustani classical tradition, showcasing intricate nuances, tonal purity, and the profound essence of Indian ragas.”

Assistant Professor Deepika Kumari, who conducted the event, added, “Each composition presented by Sharma carried devotion and expertise, offering the audience an experience that was both captivating and spiritually uplifting. On behalf of the entire university, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to her for this remarkable presentation.”

Throughout the recital, the hall resonated with the rich tones of the violin as Sharma presented soulful alaap, dynamic jod-jhala, and beautifully structured bandishes.

She also interacted with students, explaining the origins and emotions of the ragas performed—adding an educational dimension to the session.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the cultural committee, acknowledging Spic Macay’s continuous efforts in preserving and promoting classical art forms among youth.

The university reaffirmed its dedication to fostering cultural enrichment alongside academic excellence.
