Jamshedpur, Nov. 19: Flaws related to supply chain management of public distribution system (PDS) in Jharkhand will now be fixed, thanks to an initiative by the state food and civil supplies minister Saryu Rai.
Rajesh Prakash Sinha, chief executive officer of National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) along with former CEO will arrive in Ranchi on Friday to attend a meeting with Rai, chief secretary, Rajeev Gauba, principal secretary of finance department Amit Khare, agriculture secretary Ravi Ranjan and managing director of Jharkhand State Food Corporation, Baleshwar Singh and others at the minister’s residence in the capital on Saturday.
Significantly, Rai held a meeting with SEBI chairman, UK Sinha and informed him that Jharkhand is still not self-reliant when it comes to food grains and most of the items have to be brought in from outside the state.
Rai told SEBI chairman that we need to fix up the issues related to supply chain management to control the prices of food grain for which expertise of commodity exchange can be beneficial.
During the meeting, SEBI chairman had assured Rai of sending the expertise of commodity exchange to Jharkhand to estimate the possibilities of private partnership in State Food Corporation and also take measures to fix up the anomalies in supply chain management of PDS.
It may also be noted that couple of months back the process of reverse bidding for salt purchase in Jharkhand was conducted by NCDEX.
