Jamshedpur : The vibrant festival of Navratri commenced with immense enthusiasm as devotees flocked to temples across the city to partake in rituals and seek blessings from the Goddess. The air was filled with spiritual fervor as individuals stood in long queues, eagerly awaiting the inaugural aarti of the nine-day celebration.
Expressing their joy, a devotee shared, “I have been waiting for this moment throughout the year. Moreover, in the last two years, we were not able to perform our rituals. Now is the right time to enjoy the moment. We have come here to seek blessings of the almighty. We have been standing in the queue for around two hours,” emphasizing the significance of this long-awaited occasion.
Navratri, meaning ‘nine nights’ in Sanskrit, involves the worship of Goddess Durga in her various forms over the nine-day period. Alongside fasting and other rituals, the preparation of special offerings holds symbolic importance. Devotees, both men and women, lined up from early morning to offer prayers and catch a glimpse of Goddess Durga.
The festive spirit extended beyond temples, with cultural events organized by various groups. Aamra Shobai Club in Sonari and The Children of Ramakrishna in Sidhgora actively participated in organizing Durga Puja. Elaborate security measures were in place, including ‘shobha yatras’ and patrolling by RAF jawans to ensure a peaceful celebration.
Gujarati Sanatan Samaj, a key organization representing the Gujarati community in the city, hosted the Navratri Utsav at its Bistupur premises. Organizers shared their excitement about the upcoming cultural events, including ras garba, dandiya, and a fancy dress competition, emphasizing the community’s deep-rooted traditions.
Highlighting the preparation involved, Ramesh Ranpara, a senior functionary, mentioned, “Many enthusiasts travel to Gujarat weeks before the festival to buy costumes and jewelry. Some attend pre-Navratri dance classes, practice yoga, and even hire beauticians for makeup to ensure they stand out in competitions.”
As the city immerses itself in the spirit of Navratri, security personnel and volunteers work diligently to facilitate the smooth conduct of rituals and festivities, creating an atmosphere of joy, devotion, and cultural richness.
