Jamshedpur, Oct 14: The auspicious Durga Puja festivities at Sonari West Samudaik Bhawan (Road F-N) began with the Sani Maharaj Puja on Saturday. A gathering of more than 200 devotees, both men and women, from the neighbourhood actively took part in the puja, which was organized to invoke the blessings of the Lord so that the coming Durga Puja is held in a smooth and hassle free manner. The puja was performed by priest Goutam Mukherjee. The puja is likely to be inaugurated by state minister Banna Gupta.
The Durga Puja has been held here since last year. Last year too similar Sani Maharaj puja was organized on the last Saturday before the beginning of the Durga Puja.
The devotees sacrificing a historic World Cup cricketing battle at Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat between Team India and arch rivals Pakistan assembled in large numbers to seek blessings from the Lord.
The whole puja was well managed and coordinated by the president of the bhawan Goutam Bose and his team.
Others who played a pivotal role in this puja were Navin Shukla, Ritwik Das, Meenakshi Das, Swapan Kumar Mukherjee and other men and women members.
This year the puja committee is confident that the Durga Puja will be organized in a better way than last year. The idol of the Goddess will be the centre of attraction for all the visitors. Like last year on all days Bhog will be available at the pandal for the devotees. Special Bhog for Goddess for Saptami, Ashtami and Navami will be prepared by women members of the Bhawan.
A musical programme has also been organized on Navami of Durga Puja by noted local singer Goutam Sinha and his team.
Notably, most of the devotees and volunteers here are senior citizens, many 70 years and above, but it does not put a comma on the zeal in which they actively manage the puja, which makes it a must visit for all Jamshedpurians during the coming festival days.
