Jamshedpur: With Mahalaya, the festival of Navratri has commenced, marking the descent of Goddess Durga on earth. From Monday, devotees will begin worshipping the nine forms of the Goddess with the installation of the Kalash. Across Jharkhand, temples and puja pandals are glowing with devotion and festive spirit. Visiting ancient temples of the state during Navratri holds special spiritual importance, as it is believed that prayers offered with a pure heart are always fulfilled.
These temples are not only centers of daily worship but also sites of grand celebrations during Durga Puja. Many of them are considered Shaktipeeths, where the Goddess has been revered for centuries. Devotees arrive with various hopes—some pray for children, others for recovery from illness, while many seek relief from sorrows.

Deori Mandir, Tamar:
Located in Tamar, around 60 km from Ranchi, Deori Temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga and is famed for its 700-year-old idol of the 16-armed Goddess. Thousands of devotees gather here daily. Goat sacrifices are still performed as offerings when wishes are fulfilled.
Ma Chinnamastika Temple, Ramgarh:
This 6,000-year-old temple is among the most mysterious shrines in the region. The idol is unique—depicting the Goddess with her own severed head in hand and three streams of blood flowing from her neck. Renowned as a site for Tantra practices, the temple draws visitors from across the country. Devotees believe that even a single darshan here fulfills their wishes.

Ma Bhadrakali Temple, Chatra:
The Bhadrakali Temple in Chatra district holds immense significance as the idol of the Goddess is believed to be self-manifested. Despite being stolen in 1968 by an international smuggling racket, it was recovered and reinstated, further strengthening faith in the Goddess’s power. Devotees eagerly await the fall of a flower placed on the deity’s head—whoever receives it is believed to have his/her wish granted.
During Navratri, these temples transform into centers of devotion and festivity. As faith and traditions blend, thousands of devotees are expected to visit these sacred sites, reinforcing the belief that Goddess Durga continues to bless Her worshippers with strength, prosperity and fulfillment of their heartfelt desires.
