Ranchi, April 7: In a significant move to combat drug trafficking, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has announced plans to establish narcotics police stations in five districts, including Ranchi and Jamshedpur. The CID has initiated preparations for this endeavor, aimed at intensifying efforts to tackle drug-related crimes across the state.
The districts slated to host narcotics police stations include Ranchi, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Khunti, and Jamshedpur.
The CID headquarters has issued directives to the Inspector Generals (IGs) and Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of the concerned districts, instructing them to liaise with their respective Superintendents of Police (SPs) to draft and submit proposals for the establishment of narcotics police stations. These proposals will serve as the foundation for further action.
According to CID officials, the targeted districts witness the highest incidences of drug trade in Jharkhand, resulting in a surge of cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Presently, the Narcotics Control Bureau operates a zonal office in Jharkhand, directly reporting to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
