Jamshedpur: In a noble initiative, Sonari Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee inaugurated Nanak Tera Sahara Old Age Home in Sonari on Monday. The old age home is dedicated to the homeless and needy people of the city with the view to provide them a shelter, said Sardar Baldev Singh, president of Khalsa Club, during an inaugural function held today.
Praising the Sonari Gurudwara committee members, Singh said the opening of a new old age home was a great step towards rehabilitating aged and homeless people. He said running the old age home would be the collective responsibility of the entire Sikh community. He said other gurudwara committees of the city should also draw inspiration and do something more for the downtrodden.
Also present on the occasion, former Tata Steel officer Dr RP Tyagi said it is the duty of all individuals to look after their parents. Parents should not be left to fend for themselves in old age. If some difficulty or inevitable situation arises, only then should a person take help of old age home, he said.
The executive Pradhan of the gurudwara Rajendra Singh and others praised the Sonari gurudwara committee for its initiative. A langar was also organized on the occasion.
On its first day, an 80 year old man Sardar Ratan Singh was given entry to the old age home. The octagenerian had been taking shelter in the gurudwara for the last 10 days. His son Balvinder Singh has promised to take his father home after he is able to construct a western toilet in his house.
