Multi-layer security arrangements in Jamshedpur for Lok Sabha polls

Special surveillance for sensitive booths

Jamshedpur: In preparation for the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha election on Saturday, the administration has instituted extensive security measures to ensure a smooth and incident-free polling process. Alongside these high-profile security arrangements, the district administration has implemented several strategies to prevent political parties from influencing voters.

The election, which sees a contest between the two main political parties in the state—BJP and JMM—has prompted the deployment of over 7,500 polling parties to 1,887 booths. On Friday, these parties departed for their respective locations. To enhance transparency and fairness, the randomization of micro observers was finalized on Wednesday. Additionally, 26 polling booths will be decorated with 20 unique themes to engage voters and create an inviting atmosphere on election day.

Polling parties for constituencies 44-Bahragora, 45-Ghatshila, and 46-Potka departed from the LBSM College campus in Karandih. Meanwhile, those for constituencies 47-Jugsalai, 48-Jamshedpur East, and 49-Jamshedpur West left from the Co-operative College campus. Comprehensive preparations at both dispatch centers have been completed to ensure the smooth deployment of polling personnel.

Deputy Election Officer of East Singhbhum, Ananya Mittal, confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been made for force deployment to ensure smooth and simultaneous polls. He assured that there was no shortage of police personnel for the elections. Checkpoints across the district have been tightened, and the police are fully prepared to ensure free and fair elections.

“We have identified booths as highly sensitive and vulnerable, and video cameras will be installed at these locations to record the voting process,” said Mittal. The administration has deployed 100 companies of security personnel, including 50 companies of central paramilitary forces, primarily in the left-wing extremist-infested polling booths in the four Assembly segments of the Ghatshila sub-division. Furthermore, 105 critical and vulnerable booths in the CPI (Maoist)-affected Ghatshila sub-division will have videography of the electorates conducted at the booths.

Senior officials, including the deputy commissioner, have inspected the Jamshedpur Cooperative College, which will serve as the strong room for the Lok Sabha by-election. To further enhance safety, the district administration has formed 72 medical teams to be stationed at sensitive booths, particularly in Naxalite-affected areas. Each team will include a doctor, three paramedics, and nursing staff.

“The extensive and comprehensive measures on polling day are intended to provide a peaceful atmosphere for voters, encouraging them to turn out in large numbers and exercise their franchise without fear,” he said.
