Jamshedpur: A delegation led by the MP of Jamshedpur Vidyut Varan Mahato met Chief Minister Raghubar Das at his residential office in Agrico on Sunday and demanded Scheduled Caste status to the �Maal� caste.
Mahato said Maal caste was given SC status to West Bengal and Odisha. �In Jharkhand, people of the same caste are treated as general category people. The condition of the people belonging to this community is deplorable. Adibasi Research Institute has also recommended action for the improvement of condition of people belonging to Maal caste,� he told the CM.
The MP requested the CM to send a recommendation to the Central government for giving SC status to Maal caste members.
Das said he agreed to the demands and that it was a justified one. He said a proposal in this regard would soon be passed in the state Cabinet for being sent to the Central government.
Among those present in the delegation included Zila Parishad member Jagannath Mahato, Laxmi Kant Nayak, Mahendra Nayak, Gautam Nayak, Tapan Nayak, Krishna Nayak and Naren Nayak.
