‘Most Wanted’ Maoist Commander Sachin Spotted in Bodam Forests, Vigilance Intensified

Jamshedpur: Security agencies have intensified surveillance across East Singhbhum following intelligence inputs indicating renewed Maoist activity in parts of the district that were largely considered free from Naxalite influence in recent years. Reports suggest that a squad led by wanted CPI (Maoist) leader Ram Prakash Mardi alias Sachin has been sighted in the forests of Bodam and adjoining areas along the Jharkhand-West Bengal border.

The development has prompted police and intelligence agencies to strengthen monitoring and launch enhanced patrolling operations in vulnerable forested regions.

East Singhbhum emerges as potential Maoist refuge

According to security experts, sustained anti-Naxal operations and the establishment of new security camps in the Saranda and Kolhan forests of West Singhbhum have significantly increased pressure on Maoist groups. As a result, insurgents are reportedly seeking alternative hideouts in neighboring regions.

The dense forests of Bodam and Patamda, the Dalma forest ranges, and the strategically located border areas connected to the Ayodhya Hills of West Bengal are believed to offer suitable terrain for movement and temporary shelter.

Officials say the geographical features of these areas make surveillance challenging and provide opportunities for covert movement.

Wanted Maoist commander under scanner

Security agencies are particularly focused on the movements of Ram Prakash Mardi, popularly known as Sachin, who is a Regional Committee Member of the banned CPI (Maoist). A native of Jhunjhka village in Patamda, he is among the most wanted Maoist leaders in the region.

The Jharkhand government has announced a reward of ₹15 lakh for information leading to his arrest. Intelligence reports indicate that he is usually accompanied by armed cadres and is known to carry sophisticated weapons.

Linked to high-profile political assassination

Sachin and his associate Asim alias Akash Mandal are among the prime accused in the assassination of former JMM MP Sunil Mahto, who was killed in a Maoist attack at Baguria near Ghatshila on March 4, 2007.

Despite years of search operations, several accused linked to the case, including Sachin and Akash Mandal, have remained elusive, making them key targets for security agencies.

Border vigilance intensified

Following the latest intelligence inputs, district police and intelligence units have activated their network of informers in rural and forested areas. Security personnel have intensified search operations and increased patrols in sensitive locations bordering West Bengal.

Checkposts along the inter-state border have also been placed on heightened alert to monitor suspicious movements and prevent the possible regrouping of Maoist cadres.

Investigation and monitoring continue

While senior police officials have not officially confirmed the reported sightings, sources indicate that security agencies are closely monitoring developments and assessing the credibility of the intelligence inputs.

Authorities maintain that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure that any attempt by Maoist groups to regain a foothold in East Singhbhum is effectively countered through coordinated intelligence gathering and security operations.
