Ranchi, July 8: The monsoon has significantly weakened across Jharkhand, leading to increased heat and humidity in various parts of the state, including the capital. Weather forecasts indicate no rainfall expected until July 13, exacerbating the agricultural crisis gripping the region.
This year, Jharkhand has received much less rainfall than anticipated. For instance, Ranchi has recorded only 138.5 mm of rain so far, whereas the normal figure by this time would be 263 mm, marking a 47 percent decline.
The Meteorological Department reports that heavy rainfall is unlikely across the state until mid-July. Most areas will experience cloudy conditions with sporadic, light to moderate rainfall occurring once or twice daily. Ranchi and surrounding regions are expected to see continued cloudy skies with occasional light showers.
Recent rainfall data highlights Khunti Rania with the highest recorded rainfall of 74.2 mm in the last 24 hours, followed by Masanjore and Jamtara with 68 mm each. Scattered rain has been observed in districts such as Chatra, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Garhwa, Giridih, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur, Ramgarh, and Ranchi.
Pakur district leads in experiencing the weakest monsoon, recording 72 percent less rainfall than normal. Following closely are Seraikela-Kharsawan and Lohardaga, witnessing 69 percent and 63 percent less rainfall, respectively. Overall, 24 districts in the state have reported rainfall below normal levels, totaling 129.3 mm, which is 49 percent less than expected.
The current weather conditions pose significant challenges to agriculture in Jharkhand, with concerns over crop health and water availability escalating due to the prolonged dry spell.
