Jamshedpur, June 20: Residents across many districts of Jharkhand have welcomed relief from scorching temperatures following recent rainfall, with the promise of further respite as the monsoon advances towards the region. Abhishek Anand, head of the Ranchi-based weather center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), informed The Avenue Mail that the southwest monsoon has made progress through Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, parts of Bay of Bengal, Himalayan West Bengal, and some areas of Bihar. It is anticipated to reach Jharkhand within the next 3-4 days.
Anand highlighted the formation of a cyclonic circulation in eastern Bihar and adjoining regions, alongside another in Assam. He predicted strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour in parts of Jharkhand on June 20 and 21, prompting an orange alert from the Meteorological Department for these days.
On June 21, heavy rainfall is expected in the northeastern districts like Deoghar, Dumka, Godda, and others, as well as in southeastern districts including Saraikela-Kharsawan, East Singhbhum, and West Singhbhum. An orange alert has also been issued for rain and thunderstorms with strong winds on June 22.
In Ranchi, the capital city, cloudy skies are anticipated on June 21 with prospects of light to moderate rainfall. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 34 degrees Celsius, offering some relief from the recent heatwave conditions. The minimum temperature is forecasted to be 24 degrees Celsius.
According to the Meteorological Center, nine districts in Jharkhand still report temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. Heat wave conditions persisted in some parts of Palamu and Garhwa districts, although recent rainfall has alleviated temperatures in other areas. Notably, Khunti recorded the highest rainfall of 63.5 mm, followed by Ranchi with 39.4 mm, Chas in Bokaro with 34.2 mm, Namkum in Ranchi with 28 mm, and Mandar with 25.4 mm.
The IMD has assured that these weather patterns are expected to persist over the next four days, providing crucial relief from the intense heatwave gripping the region.
