Ranchi: Villagers of Kondekera under Sisai police station area of Gumla lynched a suspected member of Pahari Cheeta, an outlawed organization of extremists, for allegedly demanding extortion money from a ration shop owner late yesterday night.
Police sources said the incident occurred around 8 pm when three persons, reportedly belonging to Pahari Cheeta, reached a shop in the village and demanded extortion money from him. The accused persons had been threatening the shop owner for the last several days in a bid to extort him.
Villagers had got whiff of the threat issued by the outfit members and formed a group to crack down on the culprits. They rounded up the accused persons soon after they entered the village. Two of the outfit members escaped while one was caught by the vigilant villagers.
He was beaten up severely which led to his death. Police sent the body of the deceased to government hospital for postmortem examination this morning. An FIR was lodged against unidentified persons in this connection.
