MNPS wins accolades at IIMT-Oxford Brookes Innovation Challenge 2013

Jamshedpur: The students of Motilal Nehru Public School ( MNPS) have brought laurels to their alma mater. The vermi compost project of the students has been adjudged as one of the best in the country at the IIMT-Oxford Brookes Innovation Challenge 2013.

Students from MNPS, Faizal Raza, Shubham Sharma, Surbhi Kumari, and Prerna Kumari have worked on vermicomposting in the school where they gather the organic waste to form a manure and are trying to convert it into manure with the help of earthworms.

In order to complete the project, the school has tied up with two city based restaurants from where they get the organic waste along with the school’s own organic waste and uses it for vermicomposting.

The team from MNPS has successfully passed three levels of scrutiny and are in the top 11 with 10 other schools from Cuttack, Gurgaon, Rourkela, Jaipur, Delhi, Faridabad.

“It is a proud moment for us. Students have completed three levels and finally they will have to present a presentation on Dec 6 at Delhi where the winners will be declared. We are piining hopes on our efforts,” said Ashu Tiwary, principal, MNPS.

Out of 11 finalists, there will be five winners. The first winner will get a trip to Oxford and London while the second will get laptops. The third, fourth and fifth will get cash prizes of Rs 20,000; Rs 15000 and Rs 10000 and a trophy respectively.

The competition was instituted in 2010 by IIMT, Gurgaon and Oxford Brookes University, UK to create a platform for expression of innovative ideas by young talent in India.
