
Jamshedpur: Twenty students of Junior Heritage Club of Motilal Nehru Public School (MNPS) visited the coin museum on Friday. It was an enriching experience and students gained knowledge about various eras.
Students were excited to see coins of different ages. The value of coins changed from time to time. About 600BC Barter system was practiced, about 1200 BC seashells, beads and mud coins were used, about 600BC subsequently. Punch marks were used. Chandragupta Maurya introduced gold, silver, copper and lead coins. By the 12th century AD, the Turkish Sultans introduced Islamic calligraphy. Paper money was first issued in British India in the 18th century.
The Reserve Bank of India was formally set up in 1935. The first paper currency issued by RBI was 5 rupee note. S.N.R Naidu of the coin museum explained to the students how they can inculcate coin collection as a hobby. P. Babu Rao centre incharge extended great help. Club moderator Sunita Sharma accompanied 20 students to the coin museum.
