MNAC to conduct Swachhata poll in Mango schools

Jamshedpur: Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) has decided to conduct Swachhata voting in the schools of Mango to find out the various causes behind open defecation. The voting will be held every month till December this year.

Notwithstanding Open Defecation Free (ODF) status given to Mango, several people are reportedly still defecating in the open.

Taking serious note of such complaints, the special officer of MNAC Sanjay Kumar decided to find out the root cause behind the continuing bad habit of certain people.

The main purpose behind organizing the Swachhata Matdaan is to find out whether those defecating in the open are local residents not using their toilets or those not having toilets in their household at all.

There also may be others who are visitors to the city from other places such as drivers or travelers, said Kumar.
Through the voting, the students of middle and high schools will be able to share information on various cleanliness benchmarks.

Ballot papers will be used for voting. There will be four options for the voters who will vote for belonging to households having and using toilets, households having toilets that are not used by some of the family members, households having toilets that are not used by any of the family members and households not having toilet facility, Kumar said.

The students will also be asked to write suggestions on the ballot paper to improve the situation.
