Jamshedpur: Concern intensifies among licensed firearm holders as a city gun shop fails to return weapons months after the elections, raising serious questions over security and accountability.
Congress Leader Files Official Complaint
Rakesh Tiwari, State Secretary of the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee, filed a written complaint at the Sonari Police Station seeking immediate administrative intervention.
According to reports, several licensed gun owners deposited their firearms at “A.T. Daw & Company” (located opposite Bistupur Police Station) during the Model Code of Conduct for the November 2025 Ghatshila Assembly by-election.
Owner Untraceable, Shop Remains Shut
When owners later returned to reclaim their weapons, they found the shop closed. While a notice on the door cited the owner’s illness and absence from the city, the shop has remained shut for four to five months. The owner is currently untraceable, and his phone remains switched off.
Anxiety Over Potential Misuse
The prolonged delay has heightened anxiety among firearm owners who fear the loss or possible misuse of their weapons. In his complaint, Tiwari urged authorities to act swiftly to locate the shop owner and ensure the safe return of the firearms.
Tiwari also cautioned that a delegation will escalate the issue if authorities fail to act promptly. The police have officially begun an investigation into the matter.
