Jamshedpur, Feb 4: Tension prevailed in the Marine Drive area under the Bistupur police station on Tuesday after a 13-year-old girl was found wandering alone under suspicious circumstances.

Alert local residents rescued the minor and provided her shelter at Beldih Gram Basti before informing the police.

According to local resident Ghanshyam Soy, the girl was spotted roaming near the slum in the afternoon when two youths on a motorcycle allegedly attempted to force her onto the bike.
Sensing trouble, residents raised an alarm and rushed to the spot, following which the youths fled.
The minor told locals that she belongs to Lepa village in the Musabani police station area. She said her father has died, her mother has remarried, and her elder sister works outside the village.
She further alleged that a woman from her area took her along on the pretext of meeting her mother and brought her to Chaibasa, where she was allegedly pressured into marriage. Fearing for her safety, the girl managed to escape.
While making her way back, she reached the Marine Drive stretch, where some youths allegedly tried to lure her away. Owing to the vigilance of local residents, the attempt was thwarted and the girl was brought to safety.
Residents expressed concern over the delayed police response despite timely information, especially in a sensitive zone like Marine Drive.
The police have since been informed, the girl is safe, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the full sequence of events.
