Minimum temperature drops in Jamshedpur

Chilly westerly winds tighten grip of cold, mercury likely to slide to 8°C

Jamshedpur, Jan 3: Cold conditions have begun intensifying once again in Jamshedpur, with a noticeable dip in the minimum temperature over the past 24 hours. The city recorded a fall of 1.1 degrees Celsius, bringing the minimum temperature down to 10.5°C. Meteorologists have indicated that the chill is set to deepen further, with the minimum temperature likely to drop by another two degrees over the coming week. Along with nights turning colder, daytime temperatures are also gradually declining, which may lead to a sharper increase in winter conditions across the city.

According to weather experts, the impact of western disturbances coupled with cold north-westerly winds is expected to significantly influence temperatures over the next five days. On January 3, Jamshedpur recorded a minimum of 10.5°C, but forecasts suggest the mercury could fall to around 8°C by January 6. After the New Year celebrations, the steel city is once again bracing for biting cold mornings and chilly nights.

Across Jharkhand, cold mornings and nights continue, although sunshine during the day is providing limited relief. Maximum temperatures in major cities of the state are ranging between 23°C and 26°C, while minimum temperatures are hovering between 6°C and 11°C. Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 22.8°C and a minimum of 12.3°C. Jamshedpur registered a maximum of 25.4°C and a minimum of 10.5°C, while Daltonganj saw 25.6°C and 8.3°C respectively. Bokaro recorded 25.1°C (maximum) and 11.2°C (minimum) and Deoghar reported 24.4°C and 10.5°C.

As per the Ranchi Meteorological Centre’s report dated January 3, Gumla was the coldest place in the state with a minimum temperature of 6.6°C, though daytime sunshine provided relief there. Latehar experienced the coldest daytime conditions with a maximum of just 18.7°C. Chaibasa recorded the highest maximum temperature at 26.8°C.

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for dense morning fog in 11 districts, including Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Giridih, Deoghar, Dumka, Godda, Sahibganj and Pakur, valid till January 5. Dense fog is particularly likely in northern parts of the state on January 4.

Farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures to protect crops such as potatoes, vegetables and mustard from cold-related diseases. Light irrigation has been recommended to reduce stress caused by low temperatures and moisture, while covering vegetable nurseries with polythene can help prevent poor germination.

The forecast for Jamshedpur indicates continued cold, with minimum temperatures expected to touch 8°C between January 6 and 7, keeping residents on alert for colder days ahead.
