MGMCH to get full-time superintendent within 10 days: Health Minister

Jamshedpur: Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital (MGMCH) will soon get a full-time superintendent. This was announced on Thursday by state health minister Rajendra Prasad Singh on his arrival in the city. He said the appointment of a new superintendent will be made within next 10 days.

The minister admitted that the patients of the hospital were suffering a lot and the administration work was also hampered due to absence of a full-time superintendent. He said very soon the state government would be appointing 878 doctors. He said the regularization demand of paramedical staff and nurses will also be considered soon by the government.

Singh said the government had decided to give permission to open around 150 primary health centres (PHCs) in the state to eradicate health care problems faced by people in rural areas.

The MGM Hospital is currently in charge of a temporary superintendent Dr SK Choudhary who is also in charge of two other hospitals of the state. Due to his multiple assignments, he is unable to devote full time to MGM Hospital.
The health minister said the temporary appointment of superintendent was done in MGM Hospital after the demise of former superintendent Dr Shiv Shankar Prasad. Dr Prasad had died of heart attack during the visit of Rajendra Prasad Singh after being freshly appointed the health minister of Jharkhand.

Asked about power cut problem in the state including steel city, the minister said it was not possible in near future to provide zero cut power supply to the people of Jharkhand including Jamshedpur. He said the state hydro electricity power production units will have to be strengthened in order to make it possible. Talks are on to make it possible, he said.

The minister participated in a number of programmes in the city. He attended the wedding anniversary of former Tata Workers Union president Raghunath Pandey. He will be attending a meeting of the District Planning Committee at the district headquarters tomorrow.
