MGM Jamshedpur to get MRI and CT Scan facilities soon

Jamshedpur, Jan 29: MGM Medical College will soon be equipped with MRI and CT scan facilities, reducing the need for patients to seek expensive diagnostics outside the hospital.

Currently, MGM has two X-ray machines, but its CT scan machine, installed in 2007, has been non-functional since 2020 due to excessive use during the COVID-19 pandemic. Patients have since relied on a CT scan facility operating on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, which, while slightly cheaper than market rates, still poses a financial burden.

“MGM’s own CT scan machine would make the facility more affordable for patients,” said a hospital official. Additionally, the hospital currently lacks an MRI machine, forcing patients to seek costly MRI scans elsewhere.

Recognizing the urgent need, the procurement process for new MRI and CT scan machines has begun. Engineers have declared the old CT scan machine condemned and the Principal of MGM Medical College has sought recommendations from the Head of Radiology, Dr. D.C. Besra, regarding the specifications required for the new equipment.

“The hospital is taking steps to ensure modern diagnostic facilities are available at affordable rates,” said Dr. Besra. With the purchase process underway, patients can soon expect improved and cost-effective diagnostic services at MGM.
