Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum District Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Jamshedpur, organized a mega blood donation camp at Red Cross Bhawan in Sakchi on Thursday to commemorate World Red Cross Day. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from volunteers, social workers, and representatives of various organizations committed to humanitarian service.
The programme was formally inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Rajeev Ranjan, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum and President of the Indian Red Cross Society, East Singhbhum Branch. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Arnav Mishra, IAS, Sub-Divisional Officer, Dhalbhum and Vice-President of the district branch, Kapil Modi, Managing Director of JCAPCPL a joint venture between Tata Steel and Nippon Steel — Nalini Rammurthy, Secretary of Jamshedpur Blood Centre, and Krishna Murari Gupta, Patron of the Red Cross Society.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Rajeev Ranjan praised the humanitarian initiatives undertaken by the East Singhbhum branch of the Red Cross Society. He stated that the organization had established new benchmarks in social welfare through activities such as eye camps, health camps, and large-scale blood collection drives. He noted that these initiatives were proving immensely beneficial for needy and underprivileged sections of society.
The Deputy Commissioner also appealed to corporate organizations and socially conscious individuals to continue supporting the Red Cross Society in its humanitarian mission. During the programme, he felicitated the President and General Secretary of the Tata Motors Workers’ Union for successfully organizing a blood donation camp in which 3,000 units of blood were collected in a single day, a feat described as a record in Eastern India.
Bijjay Kumar Singh, Honorary Secretary of the East Singhbhum Branch and Chairman of the Jharkhand State Branch of IRCS, expressed gratitude to Rajeev Ranjan, Nalini Rammurthy, eminent social activist Purabi Ghosh, and Krishna Murari Gupta for their consistent guidance and support toward Red Cross activities.
World Red Cross Day is observed every year on May 8 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The 2026 theme, “Keeping Humanity Alive” and “United for Humanity,” highlights the dedication of volunteers and humanitarian workers serving people during conflicts and disasters.
