Jamshedpur, Jan 29: The much-anticipated Media Cup Cricket, organized by the Press Club of Jamshedpur, commenced on Tuesday at Cooperative College Ground with great enthusiasm. District Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal, the chief guest, inaugurated the event by releasing colorful balloons and encouraging the players.

“Sports not only keeps us fit but also instils discipline,” Mittal remarked, lauding the journalists for their dedication to the game over the past 18 years.

The tournament, dedicated to the late industrialist Ratan Tata, saw an exciting exhibition match between Telco Tashan and the District Police team. The Police team secured a hard-fought 25-run victory, with Vikas Kumar (67), Ratan (36) and Bhola Prasad (27) leading the charge. The Press Club team, despite Prashant Kumar’s valiant 74-run effort, fell short, managing only 117 runs in 12 overs.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rishabh Garg showcased his bowling skills, claiming a crucial wicket.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including ADM Law and Order Aniket Sachan, Jamshedpur Bar Association President RN Das, Tata Steel Corporate Head Rajesh Ranjan and editors from leading newspapers.

“This tournament is a testament to the spirit of sportsmanship and perseverance,” Mittal noted, appreciating the journalists’ active participation despite the passing years.

Press Club President Sanjeev Bhardwaj delivered the welcome speech, while General Secretary Vikas Srivastava concluded the event with a vote of thanks. The tournament will continue until February 8.
