Jamshedpur, April 20: The outlawed CPI-Maoist rebels triggered a blast with a view to blow up the under-construction compound wall of an upcoming constable training school at Jadugora in Ghatshila sub-division near here late on Tuesday night. As the intensity of the blast was not very high, it only partially damaged the compound wall.
The CRPF camp is located just beside the site of the blast. According to sources, the Naxal rebels planted 11 bombs at the site of which six blasted. The police have recovered the remaining five live can bombs and defused them with the help of the bomb disposal team that arrived from Ranchi.
SP (Rural) M Arshi confirmed that there were in all 11 can bombs planted in the under-constructed constable training school.
Incidentally, the Maoists also put up posters against Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the blast site accusing him of being pro-capitalist. Besides planting the improvised explosive device (IED) in the under-construction constable training school, the red rebels also put up posters on the same wall.
They demanded a raise in the wages of unskilled laborers and expressed concerns over pollution and environmental imbalance.
Altogether, the rebels put up seven posters on the wall, while some others were found on the ground. The police seized the posters which carried tags of CPI-Maoist rebels.
As the news of the blast spread, senior police officers, including deputy inspector general (Kolhan) Sambhu Thakur, senior SP (East Singhbhum), Anoop T Mathew and SP (rural) M Arshi rushed to the spot and took measures to defuse the live bombs.
Talking to newsmen, Arshi said, “We are investigating the incident triggered by the ultras. It is too early to reveal our findings. Six of bombs went off around midnight causing partial damage to the compound wall of the police establishment.
As the bombs were of low intensity, a care taker of the under-constructed constable training school mistaken them to be crackers.” According to the SP, the IEDs were planted in steel containers.
Arshi further said they suspect that the act was carried out by the Maoist squad led by Kanhu Munda. He said that the area where the blasts took place does not have much Naxal influence. However, the rebels have already made their presence felt at Jadugora.
Meanwhile, Mathew said that they gathered that two or three Naxals had used a bike to reach the constable training school and hurriedly planted the IEDs and pasted the posters.
Located about 4 km away from Jadugora police station and 35 km from Jamshedpur, the under-constructed constable training school is coming up on a plot of 100 acres.
There is no report of any arrest till the time of writing the news. Neither is there any report of casualties.
