Jamshedpur, Dec 27: Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s relationship with Jharkhand holds significant memories, particularly in relation to the state’s tribal community. Rameshwar Oraon, who served as MOS during Dr. Singh’s tenure, recalled how Dr. Singh’s leadership played a crucial role in maintaining the representation of tribals in the state.

Oraon shared that Manmohan Singh had personally intervened to prevent the reduction of reserved tribal seats in Jharkhand. The Delimitation Commission had recommended cutting six assembly and one parliamentary seat, but Dr. Singh’s efforts ensured that the representation for tribals remained intact.

“The recommendation would have reduced 28 ST assembly seats to 22 and 5 ST Lok Sabha seats to 4,” Oraon said. “Dr. Singh’s intervention protected the rights of the tribal community, and they will forever remain grateful for his contribution.”
