Manipal Tata Medical College: 3t-integrated bioethics workshop empowers healthcare faculty

Jamshedpur, July 28: Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC) recently concluded a three-day transformative workshop, the 3T-Integrated Bioethics in Health Science Workshop, from 25 to 27 July. The esteemed International Chair of Bioethics led the workshop, offering an accredited training course to equip medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, and health science faculty with essential knowledge to teach the modern integrated bioethics curriculum.

The workshop brought together a team of distinguished experts, including Dr. Russell D’Souza, the Head of the Asia Pacific Region for the International Chair of Bioethics, and Dr. Mary Mathew, the Head of the India chapter of the International Chair of Bioethics. Other eminent faculty members, including Dr. Vivek Mady, Dr. Princy Pallaty, and Dr. Gireesh actively participated, ensuring a comprehensive and insightful learning experience for all attendees.

The 3T-Integrated Bioethics in Health Science Workshop witnessed participation from 40 Medical faculty members belonging to Manipal Tata Medical College and Tata Main Hospital. Through interactive sessions and practical exercises, the participants gained valuable insights into addressing ethical challenges and promoting ethical conduct in their respective fields.

Dr. Russell D’Souza expressed his appreciation for the enthusiastic participation and said, “This workshop provided a unique platform for medical faculty to engage in thought-provoking discussions on bioethics. The training course aims to inculcate ethical values and principles in the healthcare domain, ensuring the well-being of both patients and professionals.”

The curriculum of the workshop reflects the 15 principles enshrined in UNESCO’s Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights (2005), promoting the practice of ethical principles in the healthcare domain. The 3T-IBHSc training course has been thoughtfully designed to introduce faculty members from various universities and colleges to the core curriculum of vertically and horizontally integrated bioethics.

Dr. Mary Mathew shared her insights, saying, “The workshop emphasized the importance of integrating bioethics into healthcare education. By fostering ethical conduct and decision-making skills, we aim to shape compassionate and responsible healthcare professionals.”
