Jamshedpur: Alert residents of Kirtan Vihar Colony under Mango Police Station caught a youth red-handed on Wednesday while he was allegedly attempting a theft. The locals overpowered the suspect and handed him over to the authorities following a recent spike in criminal activity in the area.
Residents on High Alert
Kirtan Vihar Colony has faced a string of thefts over the past few days, leaving the neighborhood in a state of high alarm. Just 48 hours prior to this incident, a similar theft occurred in the same locality. In that instance, private CCTV cameras captured a clear image of a suspect roaming the streets.
The Confrontation
On Wednesday afternoon, residents spotted a youth who matched the description from the CCTV footage. When the individual allegedly attempted to enter a house, the watchful neighbors immediately confronted him.
The crowd apprehended the youth and reportedly thrashed him before alerting the Mango Police. Officers arrived shortly after to take the suspect into custody for formal questioning at the police station.
Investigation and Background
Preliminary police inquiries suggest the youth may be struggling with substance abuse, a factor often linked to petty thefts in the region. Mango Police are now investigating whether this individual is the same person responsible for the series of break-ins reported by residents earlier this week.
